National Day of Prayer Event
May 3, 2007

Daryl VanderVeen
The Lord blessed us with a beautiful sunny spring day as His people gathered to acknowledge this year's National Day of Prayer on May 3rd, 2007. Well over 400 from Kings County attended the luncheon and prayer program. South Valley's Daryl VanderVeen gave the blessing for the wonderful meal which was prepared by Cal Clement.

This year's theme was "America, Unite in Prayer", and the reference scripture was 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive them their sin and heal their land."

He told the group that he felt humbled when he saw the speakers who had come before him in the National Day of Prayer events of Kings County on the "Kings Prayer Force" web site (http://www.kingsprayerforce.org/past.html) But then he realized that God had a purpose in having him there, and that he would be used by God to fulfill that purpose. When he was asked to attend he told Sheriff Chris Jordan that he would only accept the offer to speak if he could share his testimony of what Jesus Christ has done in his life.

Jim Zulim and his wife, DebbieHe shared a very moving story of growing up during the '50s in Fresno, CA. He had an easy childhood and a very rocky teenage life during which his mother left the family and was drawn into bad situations which eventually took her life. Jim shared how he became an atheist and tried to live life on his own terms.

Then he met Debbie, his future wife, who believed in Jesus Christ and had given her life to him at a very young age. Over time she demonstrated Christ to him and he eventually knew he needed a Savior and gave his life to Christ.

It was so inspiring and reassuring to hear that a man in this powerful position places his faith in Roger Watson shared in songour Lord, and that he gives all the glory to God for all things. While he is obviously extremely busy, he considers it a great honor to teach Sunday school every week, which he has done for over 20 years.

Roger Watson shared an extremely patriotic narrative and song, "America Again", and the winners of the National Day of Prayer 2007 Essay contest were announced. They are Kimberlie Raulino, SVCC's Chelsea Enloe, and Morghan Williams.
